Shop the line in Vancouver

Okay, December is finally here, which means that now even I, the Scroogiest of all, can begin thinking about Christmas. Having survived seven Christmases working in retail, I think it will still take me a while to recover my holiday spirit. But if the crowded shopping wasn’t pandemonium enough in previous years, now construction of the Canada Line is adding insult to injury by causing traffic mayhem in some of Vancouver’s best shopping quarters.
Nevertheless, it seems that TransLink and some of the neighbourhood Business Improvement Associations foresaw this potential setback, and as such, are offering holiday shoppers an transportation alternative. And what could be more festive and joyous than a winter trolley ride?
That’s right, Shop the Stops (shoptheline.ca) is a special trolley service that connects Downtown, Yaletown and Cambie Village during the holiday season. The trolley runs along the Canada Line between Oakridge and the Vancouver Art Gallery. The trolley operates every 25 minutes between 3pm and 7pm on Fridays and between 12pm and 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays. And best of all, it’s totally free, which means you can treat yourself to nice hot chocolate for the ride or put the change towards a special someone’s stocking stuffer. Or, as I often enjoy, you could indulge in the infamous seasonal self-gift.
