Edmonton: Bustiers, knickers, garters and dessert

Lingerie by Christine Vancouver
On a recent trip to my local organic grocery store I saw a sign that read, “Feeling good starts on the inside.” While most people read this phrase and think to themselves, “must eat more fruit and veggies,” diehard fashionistas stop dead in their tracks, turn around and head straight for Night Owl Imports (10180 101st St., 780-423-7757, nightowlimports.com), a well-known designer lingerie boutique and purveyor of all things lace, silk and satin.
No longer limited to trousseaus and special occasions, haute lingerie, when worn on a daily basis, has a magical effect of transforming its wearer into a superwoman (empowered, confident and sexy). Is there anything more seductive or alluring than an exquisite bra strap peeking out from under a conservative ensemble?
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Sorrentino’s (downtown location only, 10162 100st St., 780-424-7500, sorrentinos.com), Edmonton’s famed Italian eatery and Night Owl are once again teaming up to present their annual “Lingerie Lunch” on February 10. Tickets are $35, which includes a three-course meal and fashion show that will feature boudoir frocks by Betsey Johnson, Christine Vancouver (shown), Jonquil, Lise Charmel and Claire Pettibone. Raffle tickets for a door prize will be sold throughout the event, with proceeds going towards the “Campaign for Prostate Health.”
Afterwards, be sure to head over to Night Owl to pick up your favorite items from the show; the boutique’s pink leopard print carpet will definitely get you in the mood for lingerie. And remember ladies, you’re never fully dressed without a smile and some seriously gorgeous bras and panties.
