Montreal: From the Cirque du Soleil to your closet

Every once in a while you get to meet someone genuinely good and inspiring, with sparkles in her eyes that gets you thinking that if you’d known her a little bit better you’d realize her heart is bigger than Mount Everest. To me, that person is the sweet Jennifer Glasgow, proud co-owner of one of my favourite boutiques, General 54 (54 St. Viateur W., 514-271-2129, general54.blogspot.com) and designer of her own eponymous label.
Originally from Winnipeg, Glasgow, who once made extravagant hats for Cirque du Soleil, designs casual, funky clothing for women who like comfort and style in one outfit. Sometimes screen printing, sometimes following trends and sometimes using unusual choices of colours and fabrics, Jennifer Glasgow rarely lets anyone dictate where her new collections will go. The touching embrace of femininity in all her pieces is always something to look forward to.
With a strong ethical and ecological sense (everything is made in Montreal and her fabrics are natural and organic), the line proudly jibes with today’s environmental and economical concerns.Jennifer Glasgow’s Spring collection is currently available at General 54, as well as online at jenniferglasgowboutique.com. I personally cannot wait to get my hands on her amazing ’70s-style, high-waisted jeans–perfect for a night of rock ‘n’ roll in the city!
