Guelph: Nouveau maternity

Photography by Heather Loney
I’m not sure if it’s just something in the air, or something in the water, but it seems as if every woman I walk past on the street is pregnant. And it’s not because I’m eagerly looking for baby-bumps to live vicariously through, the myriad bumps are hard to ignore. As is the fact that maternity wear has clearly changed for the better.
Pregnant women no longer have to endure 40 weeks in dated muumuus or their partner’s track pants. There is something to be said about maternity wear so stylish that it works in a wardrobe regardless of whether the wearer is actually pregnant.

Blossom Maternity and Kids Boutique (112 Wyndham St. N., 519-822-2376) does just this. New owners Melissa Tonge and Stacey Campbell-Coady have given the momma-and-me boutique a facelift, and feature pieces so lovely that I was seriously considering buying some for myself (not pregnant at all).
Look for the ice blue and gold-trimmed tunic by Pavlina Dadakova ($66), and the modern, work-appropriate separates by Bellyssima (from $40). The store is stylish and calming–the perfect combination for the chic new mom-to-be.
