Toronto: Queen West’s new playground for the senses

Like a wonder antidote to a bad day, troubles seem to just melt away when you are savouring a sweet bite. Thank goodness Torontonians are never a corner away from a good patisserie! And since the recent opening of the ultra stylish Nadège (780 Queen St. W., 416-368-2009, nadege-patisserie.com), French pastries in the city just got edgier.
On the outside looking in, the shop’s sleek white interior resembles a gallery where intricate Parisian delights are displayed like works of art. While mojito flavoured macaroons are still in the works, one can peer into the spacious counters for exotic flavours like rose and olive oil, found alongside everything from petite cakes to croissant sandwiches. When it comes to ingredients, chef and owner, Nadège Nourian insists on using only the freshest and finest from local farms and everything down to the marshmallows and chocolate bars are made in the open kitchen. Nourian comes from a line of pastry chefs and her talent and passion have earned her spots in top restaurants, including London’s Yauatcha.
Oh! Possibly the finest and most decadent that I’ve ever tasted, their gourmet marshmallows are soft, light clouds of sugar infused with flavours ranging from gin-and-tonic to coffee and poppy. To compliment the menu, Nadège serves up Kusmi Tea and coffee brews from Cafés Richard (the same coffee served at the café Les Deux Moulins, of Amélie fame). Next time you take a stroll by Trinity Bellwoods, entice your taste buds to Nadège’s adventurous playground for the senses.
