Lights in a Maybe by Sarah Catalfo dress at this year's Juno Awards
Two events have crossed our desk that will highlight some of Toronto’s young fashion talent this month:
Sarah Catalfo presents the Bandits & Bows collection for her Maybe by Sarah Catalfo line tomorrow night at The Rivoli ($15, doors 8:30, musical performance 9:00, show 9:30, myspace.com/maybebysc), with proceeds going to the World Wildlife Fund. The 20-year-old designer has already managed to score a red carpet appearance for her work. (Her sparkly plum frock appeared at this year’s Juno Awards on Canuck techno-popper Lights, who also sported some bright, body-con concoctions in the videos for “February Air” air “Drive My Soul.”) Catalfo’s stretch metallics and neon shades have a bit of the acid prom about them, but in the often sober and serious world of Canadian fashion, they are a bit of fun.
Jordan McCully and Melanie Selvadurai, organizers of The Up & Coming show (August 22, $30, at The Factory, 34 Futurity Gate, Unit 8, Vaughan. Tickets at 905-621-6797) see their event as a networking opportunity for GTA’s aspiring fashion crowd. The group of 16- to 26-year-old designers, models, hair stylists and make-up artists will put on a night of eight mini fashion shows, pumped up with live performances from a few (you guessed it) up-and-coming bands.
