The Emmys: Whither the statement necklace?

Is the statement necklace over? The recent explosion of oversized jewels–both real and faux–has left nary a clavicle unadorned. But here we are, flipping through red carpet pics from last night’s Emmys, taken slightly aback by all the strapless gowns and naked necks. Witness January Jones and Blake Lively (pic after the jump), both in Versace, both with bare necks. Collarbones were alson bare on Christina Hendricks, The Office‘s Jenna Fischer, Kate Walsh, Jessica Lange…. Notable exceptions were the jewelled neckline of Elisabeth Moss’ Reem Acra Gown and Ginnifer Goodwin’s simple-but-stunning rock crystal and rose gold necklace from, of all things, the Ivanka Trump Collection.
Not that anyone went sparkle-free. Oh no. Lively wore massive, 22-carat diamond studs from Lorraine Schwartz, who also created Lively’s diamond and rock crystal cuff and 19-carat ring. Jones was decked out in $425,000 worth of Neil Lane–diamond drop earrings and a diamond leaf bracelet. So there was no lack of statement jewels, but they seemed to work with the dresses, instead of grabbing all the attention for themselves.
