Fashion news: Gemma Ward quits modelling and Burberry jumps in the social networking trenches

Gemma Ward may be ready to retire from her modelling career–her agent announced that she has no plans to continue on the catwalk. After photos of the absentee Australian surfaced on fashion blogs last week, Ward’s physique has come under scrutiny for being “plus-size,” as it has been with every model who starts to look normal. Burberry has launched Theartofthetrench.com, a social networking site centered around their most famous product. Basically it’s a catalogue of street stylers paying respect to the classic trench while viewers comment on how they wear them. Burberry fans can also submit their own pics to the judgement of online traffic. [Racked]
The new retrospective Prada book by Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli delves into the label’s rich history while also hinting at the future of the family business. Although the couple asserts they are in peak “physical and psychological shape,” Bertilli hinted at the possibility of their two sons Lorenzo and Giulio joining the company in the future. [WWD]
The Olsens’ Wal-Mart exclusive beauty line mary-kateandashley has been discontinued. No word yet on whether or not Olsenboye will pick up a cosmetics collection under the JCPenney label. [WWD]
