Fashion news: SpongeBob’s Lagerfeld makeover, Lacroix deal hits the skids and more

Karl Lagerfeld gave a SpongeBob SquarePants doll a makeover for a Paris fundraiser for the World Wildlife Fund. The figurine was outfitted in the image of his maker, with Uncle Karl’s signature dark shades and fingerless gloves. [WWD]

Christian Lacroix is in dire straights again. The Ajman sheikh Hassan Bin Ali al-Naimi, who was set to buy the bankrupt fashion house, failed to close the deal in time. The court will decide how to move forward tomorrow—either accepting the current owner Falic group’s restructuring plan or extending the deadline to allow for potential billionaire buyers to pop up. Designer Pierre Cardin was in hospital after suffering a vasovagal episode on Sunday. The 87-year-old fashion icon experienced a drop in blood pressure at the Paris airport and was admitted to a nearby hospital, but was discharged soon after. Cardin is still the proprietor of his fashion house, a rarity these days, and has said that he would only sell for $1.3 billion. [AFP, via Jezebel]

H&M will stream a live fashion show of Sonia Rykiel’s lingerie collection on their website tomorrow. Viewers can expect the Grand Palais show to be over-the-top, with models walking on moving floats centred around a 30 metre Eiffel Towel constructed of wire and twinkly lights. [Sassybella]
