An ivory satin bridal gown designed by the Fontana Sisters, known for working with celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly, for Audrey’s wedding to James Hanson in 1952, which never took place. A 23-year-old Audrey was photographed wearing the dress at a fitting that occurred during her filming of “Roman Holiday”. Audrey famously told the sisters, “I want my dress to be worn by another girl for her wedding, perhaps someone who couldn’t ever afford a dress like mine, the most beautiful, poor Italian girl you can find.” It was given to Amabile Altobella, who married a farmer and had a long, happy marriage.
