Martin Margiela no longer a part of Maison Martin Margiela

Though rumours that Martin Margiela was no longer designing for his eponymous fashion line were confirmed back in October, it’s now come out that the reclusive Belgian has left his house entirely–and he won’t be replaced. Chief Executive of Maison Martin Margiela, Giovanni Pungetti, announced the fashion house will continue operation under the 28-person creative team, without appointing a new creative director. “It would have been very simple to hire someone else, and we evaluated that option, but in the end, what is important is the taste of designer,” said Mr. Pungetti. After dispelling rumours of a falling out between Renzo Rosso and Martin Margiela, Pungetti asserted that the designer decided to walk away after his 20-year run. The future of the fashion house remains to be seen, but considering the disappointment that the last couple of offerings have elicited, the outlook isn’t great. [IHT]
