Nelly Furtado, Nikki Yanofsky and Bryan Adams wear Dsquared at the opening ceremonies
Dean and Dan Caten, Toronto natives, ready-t0-wear designers and Olympic torch runners, also had a hand in last night’s opening ceremonies for the Vancouver Games. The pair designed the looks for all the celeb performers (save Ashley MacIsaac and K.D. Lang). The high point was certainly opera star Measha Brueggergosman, who sang the Olympic hymn in a full-length shimmering golden gown which, combined with her elevated position, gave Brueggergosman the appearance of performing on Mount Olympus. If opinions are split on the arrangement of “O Canada” sung by last night by Montreal singer Nikki Yanofsky, at least we can all agree that her origami fold cocktail dress was cute. Garou’s astrakhan-trimmed jacket looked sharp, as did Bryan Adams in a suit fitted within an inch of its life–no comment on the duet with Nelly Furtado. It must be said, though, that fiddler Ashley MacIsaac was really the best-dressed man of the night, tearing through in a sleeveless biker vest and kilt.
