Fashion news: Models apparently petitioning for food at TFW, Richemont buys Net-a-Porter and Matthew Williamson + Blair Waldorf
Everyone’s hungry at Toronto Fashion Week. Models are apparently circulating with a petition to get some well-earned backstage grub. (They’re usually in back-to-back shows with no time for the trek to not-very-nearby eats.) Jeanne Beker tweeted last night: “3 models just came up to me and asked me to sign a petition requesting that the FDCC provide food backstage for models!” Catwalker Addison Gill also took to Twitter to implore us to sign on. Addison Gill was also giving Olympic bronze medalist Joannie Rochette modelling tips before her turns in the Heart Truth and Attitude shows. [@AddisonGill]
It’s a done deal: Swiss luxury group Richemont, the world’s largest jewelry maker, has bought out the remaining 67% of Net-a- Porter for $343 million. Founder Natalie Massenet will remain executive chairman. [Business Week via Racked]
Angelina Jolie‘s reveals her PETA side; before the actress would bust out her new Akris ecru horsehair handbag, her stylist called the brand asking about the treatment of the animals. “We told her horses get haircuts just like we do,” Akris designer Albert Kriemler said which seemed to soothe Jolie’s concerns, because she was recently spotted carrying the bag made of horse tails. W magazine’s game of musical chairs ain’t over yet: longtime creative director Dennis Freedman has confirmed his departure and rumours persist that the mag’s senior contributing fashion editor Camilla Nickerson is heading back to Vogue as a contributing editor and fashion director Alex White was photographed working with Karl Lagerfeld on the Fall 2010 Chanel campaign shoot. Matthew Williamson has teamed up with Gossip Girl‘s costume designer Eric Daman to create GG-inspired window displays for his store in the Meatpacking District. The windows go hand-in-hand with the plot line of the next episode which features Blair Waldorf shopping in a Matthew Williamson dress. The display features a brunette mannequin in the same dress with “What Did Chuck Do?” and “Tune In” plastered on the window. [Styleite]
