Men’s style guide: Montreal’s Modasuite offers bespoke 2.0

“It’s not a tailor; it’s not ready-made. It’s a bit of both,” says designer Dimitri-Chris Alexiou. By taking the bespoke experience online, the gents at Modasuite (modasuite.com) are able to bring customizable wears, at a click, straight to your doorstep. “Modasuite is for the average young- to middle-aged professional. Men who don’t have time to shop,” says Alexiou, who created the 2010 collection for the new service. “Hence, the web platform.”

Nestling itself somewhere between high-end and mass—dress shirts go for about $80, suits start a $400—Modasuite offers stylish made-to-measure clothes, from business and casual basics to edgier and flashier pieces, such as bold checked shirts with contrasting collar and cuffs. Having built a comprehensive and savvy system for their (web)bespoke tailoring platform, Modasuite works to get you the right fit while you surf from home. It’s this easy:

1. Browse the site and live-chat with the company’s styling representatives, who are on-hand seven days a week for advice and support.

2. Select an item. Customize it by opting for different collar, cuff and vent options, or choose from an array of patterns. “Which is my way of interacting with the client,” says Alexiou.

3. Create a personal profile. Tutorials teach you how to measure yourself. (This is where the live-chat comes in handy). Measurements are closely monitored and if there are any glaring inconsistencies, Modasuite will contact you straight away.

4. Check out, and receive your order in about two to three weeks.

You can also receive the same services at the Modasuite store in Montreal (a Toronto flagship is set for fall) or one of their temporary pop-up events, which will be announced on their website prior to the opening. The first in in Toronto from May 6 to 9, followed by Ottawa and beyond. If anything that comes to your doorstep needs extra adjustments, you can swing by a Modasuite location or one of their partner tailors.

The title of this post is mis-leading. This is just another made-to-measure shop, NOT BESPOKE. You cannot get a BESPOKE suit by ordering online…and it certainly would not start anywhere near $400

    I think that’s why it’s called “bespoke 2.0″

  • SuitUp

Sean–I understand the reasoning behind Bespoke 2.0 but I don’t think they realize that M2M and Bespoke are completely different and the processes are by no means similar and could never be confused..The word bespoke should not be associated with anything M2M….

@Suitup, The term bespoke in fashion refers individually patterned and crafted men’s clothing. Ready to wear is clothing off the rack. Made to measure is a form of bespoke manufacturing so defining it as bespoke 2.0 would be as accurate as it can be.

  • Jamie

to be more precise, made to measure and bespoke are not identical processes, but the debate would lie in how much pattern adjustment from a block pattern would make a suit one or the other by your definition [i.e. customers points of measure]. In my eyes, if a suit is being altered from the point of major pattern adjustments, that is as custom a suit as you can get and $400 is a steal.

A custom tailored suit is probably the most essential thing on this list. That’s a good look for any man. My husband has his suits tailored at Giliberto Designs in NYC(www.gilibertodesigns.com). They do the suits on Law & Order and are extremely talented.

a custom suit (bespoke) is a suit made based on a pattern that is made for you from scratch. its not just the pattern but also the hand work too. the different tensions by hand stitching, manipulation of fabrics by ironing and cutting all play a huge roll in a custom suit. m2m is a process where alterations are minimized when compared to a suit off the rack. the process is the same as an off the rack suit, machine finished.

    i hope that settles things…
