Vancouver shop talk: Foundlings is a giftie paradise
Like most of us in the fashion industry, Terry Jackson loves beautiful things. But unlike most of us, he decided to channel that adoration into a new store. I stumbled upon Foundlings (1812 W. First Ave., Vancouver, 604-737-7688) after brunch at The Epicurean. The shop’s bright atmosphere (designed by Robert Bailey, the guy behind the Opus Hotel interior) and all the tchotchkes beckoned me, and like a moth to a flame, I ambled in. With a price range from $20 to $800, this place is the ultimate gift-giver’s resource—and a gift well given is…deserving of a gift to oneself, too? In any case, my favourite Foundlings findings include the Aquiesse soy candles ($49), which come with a lid that doubles as a coaster, any of the cuffs by Stelios ($129) and purses by High Fashion Handbags. I also love the lightweight, handmade travel bags (from $129) by Laga Designs, an Indonesian company that employs survivors of the 2004 tsunami.
