The date for Alexander McQueen’s memorial service has been set for September 20, during London Fashion Week. A private funeral for McQueen, who committed suicide in February, was attended by close family and friends, including Naomi Campbell, Daphne Guinness and Kate Moss, but this is a chance for the fashion community at large to celebrate the designer’s life and talent.

The service will take place at London’s iconic St. Paul’s Cathedral, which has also held memorials for Jim Henson and King Hussein of Jordan, as well as the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

It’s nice to see his legacy being fully acknowledged.

It makes me even more jealous of the serious and complex fashion cultures of London, Paris, Milan, Tokyo and New York. Is there anyone in Canada who would be remembered in this way? Or a sufficient infrastructure to remember them?
