It’s a good thing leather is one of the fall essentials this season, because now I have an excuse to pull out all the faux-leather items in my closet and wear them simultaneously. An essential leather item? This faux-leather jacket, which I’ve found easily pairs with any outfit, no matter how bright or patterned or monochrome. Basically, the rule to wearing leather jackets is that there are no rules.

There are many things I love about fall fashion—Cozy snits, leather circle skirts, the return of opaque black tights, multi-purpose scarves, deep red lips & the mixing of textures would just be a few. But one item that always makes my fall wish list (this season especially) is a perfectly transitional bootie. I have been wish-listing lace up booties since last fall, waiting to get my hands on the perfect (and affordable) pair. I scored this Michael Kors pair just this weekend, and I absolutely can’t wait to pair these with a perfect pair of burgundy skinnies & a simple cream blouse. Be still my autumn loving heart.

If there’s one essential that I absolutely need come fall, it’s a super warm boxy sweater. Whether I grab a cashmere fisherman sweater in the men’s section or a big chunky knit two sizes too big, I live in pullovers as soon as the mercury drops. I can’t cope with the cold (I’ll start crying if I’m too chilly, seriously it’s pathetic) so I don’t do dainty sweaters in the winter, and what’s more, I find that the big heavy ones actually look better anyway. Like most other sartorial strategies, it’s all in the balance. For fall, I tend to wear my comfy pullovers (this one here is handmade in a seaside village near my cabin) and tone down the manly ruggedness of them with little skirts, wool tights, lots of layered jewellery and something with a heel.

My fall essential is a trench coat. Living in Vancouver we see a ton of rain, so having a trench that is both functional and fashionable is a must! While I certainly have a collection of colours, this bright mint trench is a fall favourite as its colour pops on a dreary day. When shopping for a trench I try to look for one that has a removable liner so that you can wear it through the transitional season of summer into fall as well.

Cara’s wearing: T-shirt. Trench, Queen’s Wardrobe. Jeans, American Eagle. Necklace, J.Crew. Sunglasses, Karen Walker. Heels, Shoemint. Bag, Coach.

One fall essential I knew I had to have in my closet was a baseball T-shirt. This need grew from spotting Taylor Tomasi-Hill rocking a couple of different versions. Then Oscar de la Renta showed the most beautiful bedazzled version for his resort collection & the love only grew. I knew I needed some sort of bedazzled one but couldn’t fork over the cash for Oscar one. Lucky for me Joe Fresh pulled through for me and I snatched up this beauty. This top is showcased all on it’s own. The sequin sleeves draw in your attention, and it is a neutral colour so it goes with everything. In all honesty sequins always go with everything & and every day should include a little sparkle.
