In the battle of who wears Chanel best, the victor is often not easy to spot. Last night in New York City Chanel celebrated the 80th anniversary of its Bijoux de Dimants collection and as a fashion house known to attract many celebrities, this event was no exception.
Blake Lively made her first public appearance since marrying Ryan Reynolds (he snuck in after her red carpet walk) and wore Chanel from the Fall 2012 Couture collection. It was paired with Christian Louboutin heels (she really doesn’t wear anything else), Chanel jewels and a newlywed glow—Blake Lively’s skin looked fantastic! Alexa Chung, who recently announced she will be writing a book, wore an embroidered piece from the brand’s pre-Spring 2013 collection. The voluminous dress makes her look like a young girl attending a birthday party, but we’re into it.
The cover of our November 2012, 35th Anniversary issue features none other than Linda Evangelista, and she also attended the fête, wearing a classic Chanel bouclé belted dress. Her nude lip and natural hair proved that her look is timeless—and that guessing her age is no small feat. However, on the opposite end of the age spectrum is Elle Fanning, who wore a black velvet button-up dress with her thick blonde braid coming out from under little top hat—like a young Victorian pauper.
The first woman lucky enough to wear a piece from Spring 2013, however, was Diane Kruger. The collection debuted last week and she selected (or the house selected for her) a bright-blue strapless dress, which was paired with a yellow clutch and diamond earrings. And while she may have been given the opportunity to wear the newest Chanel collection, all the partygoers were given a special treat—a surprise performance from The xx.
