Toronto: Philip Sparks Fall 2009

Toronto menswear designer Philip Sparks showed his Fall 2009 collection ahead of the Fashion Week schedule at the recently refurbished Burroughes Building on Queen West. The local fashion community turned out in force—editors, buyers, bloggers and writers mingled over cocktails before and after the show in a display of friendly style accord.
Inspired by Peter and the Wolf, Sparks sent out the prettiest male models in chunky knits with Canada geese done in intarsia, dark cuffed jeans fully lined in plaid flannel (that we can’t wait to get our BFs into) and interesting jodhpurs that taper at the knee and button down the calf. His finale piece—the equivalent of the classic grand closing gown—was a huge raccoon-fur coat worn with a muskrat-trim cap and fur three-finger gloves; Peter’s wolf come to fashion life.
