PFW diary: Fairytales come to life at Akris, Andrew Gn, Azzaro, Celine, and Hermès

Paris Fashion Week is a fairytale, though my battered and blistered feet might indicate otherwise. From the characters to the costumes to the sets, every sunrise here marks the beginning of another magical chapter. So, it wasn’t all that surprising when a bona fide Princess (Charlene Wittstock, Prince Albert of Monaco’s new bride) walked into the Akris show and perched front row. I was seated two rows behind which proved to be an excellent vantage point to study her sizeable diamond stud earrings. My final analysis? They were the Goldilocks of gemstones–not too big, not too small. She is a big fan of Akris, and even had an outfit designed for her wedding day (not THE dress, but a dress) so her ties with this company are firmly rooted. Perhaps this connection explains Akris’s throw to Monaco’s Grand Prix Formula 1 in its spring line-up: racing green, sporty stripes, race car prints. Even the show’s soundtrack included engines revving.

My luxe morning continued over at l’Hôtel de Crillon, one of the world’s poshest (and likely priciest) hotels, to attend Andrew Gn. Seated in a Marie-Antoinette-inspired salon, it seemed fitting that models drifted by in white embroidered jackets boasting stiff peplums and silk dresses with Watteau backs. Over at Azzaro many of the dresses, belts, statement necklaces and shoes got the Midas Touch, while Hermès balanced its signature palette of white, black and orange with rich royal hues like purple and azure blue. Like any fairytale, the real story lies in the details.  Here’s what I’ll be dreaming about tonight:

  • The green tunic and wide-leg trousers at Akris – So fresh!
  • The Princess of Monaco’s bun (it was the perfect mix of undone/done)
  • The white pleated maxi skirts at Hermès – Every summer stroll requires one.
  • The impeccable tailoring at Celine – Does it really get any better than this?
  • The gold statement bib necklaces at Azzaro – Want to make an entrance? Wear this.
  • My spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower early this morning en route to the shows  (see it on Twitter: @sarahcasselman).
  • The arrival of my Chanel ticket – Sunshine in an envelope.
