Topshop may be headed to the Bay

Christopher Kane for Topshop
British fast-fashion chain Topshop may be part of the Bay’s renaissance, which has included a lavishly revamped The Room at the department store’s Toronto Queen Street location, and a deal to create the official Vancouver 2010 Olympics merch. Though rumours (or just wishful thinking on the part of the local fashion population) of a possible partnership have been around for a while, HBC CEO Jeff Sherman confirmed to ROB Magazine that his company is in talks with Topshop to put their boutiques in Bay stores. Say Sherman:
“We’re talking to them but we have not struck a deal. I’d like to. That’s an indication of how we’re thinking of using a lot of the space in our stores. We’re going to start taking a look at food and restaurants and entertainment venues. We’ve been talking to GoodLife Fitness. We’re trying to make that happen.”
So it sounds like a maybe–and a maybe that’s quite heavily rumoured to be happening for Spring 2010. We have to wonder if the in-store boutiques would carry, say the Christopher Kane for Topshop collection or one of the other Brit designer collabs that we spend our time slavering over. For the Bay to survive they realy need to become more fashionable. The Room is a great start.
My credit card trembles in excitement.
This would be an extremely smart move by our oldest retailer.
