Glorious fall

As leaves turn red and yellow in a lovely chromatic symphony, Montreal is having a blast. Thanks to the long weekend I checked out a few movies at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema (nouveaucinema.ca); Patti Smith’s poetic biography was my favorite. On Saturday night Pop Levi played a few mellow songs at La Tanière. As more film nerds and hipsters came in, Ninja Tune’s DJs took over for a wild dance party. The festival goes until next week, so try to check it out—the films are amazing.
Talkin’ about art, last week I went to the hip opening party for Sympathy for the Devil: Art and Rock and Roll since 1967 (Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal, 185 Ste-Catherine St., West, macm.org), which showcases amazing works from Richard Prince, Pipilotti Rist and Robert Longo that explore the world of rock. Don’t miss the portraits of David Byrne, Dee Dee Ramone and Brian Eno. Very cool. If you like it, you might also enjoy the Warhol Live exhibit at the (1380 Sherbrooke Street West, mmfa.qc.ca)
I’m off covering Montreal Fashion Week, which I’m sure will offer many nice surprises, so come back for more news.
