Time for the Games
With the official one-year countdown to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics underway as of February 12, international media tour groups have been flooding into the city. One recent press event I was lucky enough to be invited to was a full-day trip to Whistler, where we were given a tour of the Whistler Sliding Centre, which includes the track used by bobsleigh, luge and skeleton (a crazy sport where athletes speed down the hill headfirst).
Omega, who’s been keeping time at the Olympics since 1932, was on hand to show us the detailed timing mechanisms used for the event. This is all very nice, but this is a fashion magazine, so I also want to show you these: Two limited-edition versions of the Seamaster Diver 300m ($4500, omegawatches.com), created to commemorate the Vancouver Games.
Of course, only 2010 of each version have been produced, each individually numbered. Both versions feature white lacquered dials, reminiscent of the snow and ice of the winter Games, and red-anodised aluminium bezel ring around the watch face. The caseback is embossed with “Ilanaak”, the First Nations-derived symbol (the inukshuk) of the Games whose name means “friend” in Inuktitut.
Perfect for counting down the last 351 days.
