Do not work out in ratty sweats! Roxy has cute new gear

Roxy Athletix tank and shorts, $54 each
I admit it: I have sat safely on my couch and sniggered at the poor out-of-breath dieters on The Last 10 Pounds Boot Camp and Bulging Brides. Recently, I got my comeuppance. No, I didn’t slip and fall on my way to the fridge during the commercial— I attended a boot camp with Tommy Europe, the same man putting those reality TV ladies through their paces. Granted, mine only lasted one hour, rather than weeks edited into an hour, but my hour had no commercial breaks to catch your breath and hit the snack cupboard.
For the launch of their new Roxy Athletix line, the lovely (read: tan and fit) ladies of the surf wear staple thought they’d treat us to Tommy’s signature regimen. Luckily, he’s much more smiles and encouragement than the tough love he gives on those shows. Between the “Nice, nice!” and “Way to go!” were 15-second countdowns that actually felt like 15 seconds (honestly, I swear some trainers have some sort of stopwatch that runs on space time where each second lasts for five).
While I certainly kvetched like the best of the housewives and the housewives-to-be that appear on the shows, there is no need to look like a hausfrau when doing ab-zappers and squats. The Roxy Athletix line is cute and girly, with bright neon hues (the lime and magenta were especially striking) and features that will appeal to the trained athlete (non-chafing seams) and the novice (love handle-friendly hidden elastics that prevent shirts and shorts from riding up while you work out). Oh, and no need to cancel that session with the personal trainer–the clothes are reasonably priced: Tops start at $22, bottoms at a happy $39 and jackets run from $72. The line will be available in May at Bikini Village, Swimwear Etc., Sporting Life and select Quiksilver stores.
