Vancouver: Backpacker-chic is no longer an oxymoron
Some of my friends have gone backpacking in Europe for the summer, and even though I couldn’t join them, I partook in their fun by, er, buying myself a new backpack, too. Swedish brand Fjällräven (fjallraven.se) developed this “Kanken” backpack over 30 years ago to help school children keep their backs straight—how cute is that? Nowadays, there’s the regular backpack, but also a version with an additional compartment that fits a 13-, 15-, or 17-inch Mac laptop perfectly ($110, Roden Gray, 231 Cambie St., Vancouver, 604-689-7302, rodengray.com). Sure, you probably don’t bring your MacBook Pro on a backpacking excursion, but the pack is just as ideal for zipping around Vancouver on your bike.
