Toronto shop notes: 5 minutes with Holly Dyment
When it comes to hot hues—like orange, purple, pink and red—Holly Dyment (hollydyment.com) definitely knows her way around a colour wheel. After 20 years as a Toronto-based interior decorator, Dyment has recently delved into the world of fine jewellery. Her eponymous line of baubles (think peridot and turquoise rings, chalcedony pendants and amethyst chandelier earrings) is ideal for those looking to make a bold, sophisticated statement.
How did you get into jewellery design?
“I love colour and combining colours to create more tension. A year ago I decided to design jewellery in India. What could be better?”
Where do you source your stones?
“I go to Jaipur a few times each year. All gems are cut, polished and set in India.”
How would you describe your collection?
“I don’t like perfection. I don’t want my jewellery to look catalogue. Each piece is different. I love ‘off’ shapes and a little fantasy.”
What’s the biggest challenge working in this industry today?
“Gold is getting more expensive and so are gemstones. I would now label the gems I work with more precious than semi.”
