While every teenager in Toronto flooded Queen and John to cheer on Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Katy Perry and more at the 2012 MMVAs, once the show was over MuchMusic viewers who still remember the era of Rick the Temp descended downtown for the afterparties. Performers and notable names alike divided time between two of the larger parties: Universal Music got LMFAO to continue their co-hosting duties at their official Maison Mercer “After Party Rock” jam, which drew the likes of the Far East Movement crew and newly married singer Lights. Despite Universal being Bieber’s label, the teenage heartthrob didn’t make an appearance, though every time his name was announced by the MC—as in, “Up next! Justin Bieber…’s official DJ is performing!!”—you could hear the entire club collectively gasp, which, considering the reverberating loud bass, was a feat within itself.

Around the corner, gossip blogger Perez Hilton hosted his own party that was more of a mini-concert, with Jepsen, Perry and Dragonette performing for crowds. A separate VIP area saw musicians, TV stars and other bold-faced names mingling, including Canadian 90210 star Shenae Grimes, Glee‘s Chord Overstreet and Darren Criss and Australian pop star (and rumoured boyfriend of Kardashian sister Kylie Jenner) Cody Simpson. We’ll consider this star-studded night a proper warm-up to TIFF, which may seem far away, but will be here sooner than you can say “A-lister.”
