Remembering hairstylist Marco Greco

A cover look from 2005 hairstyled by Marco Greco

Marco Greco—a Toronto based hair stylist who coiffed the hair of some of the city’s most stylish women—passed away suddenly at the age of 46 on Tuesday. Greco was an editorial staple at FASHION, where he produced looks that were both stunning and memorable. Susie Sheffman, our fashion editor-at-large, remembers Greco’s gentle nature saying, “Aside from a talented hairdresser, the world has lost a lovely gentle soul in Marco. It was always a treat to sit in his chair, and an honour to collaborate with him creatively on shoots.”

When not doing editorial work, Greco cut and styled hair from revered Toronto salon Angst. Despite its location in one of the scrappiest quarters of the city, high-profile clients like Kimberley Newport-Mimran would regularly make the trek to have Greco tend to their tresses. The Pink Tartan designer liked the hair stylist’s work so much she took to her blog to praise him writing, “My hairdresser is Marco from Bill Angst, he is a genius!”

Greco also worked with Canadian super model Shalom Harlow, and notably cut Bryan Adam’s hair the last time the Canadian crooner was in Toronto. It turns out that the homegrown rock star was so impressed with his first Greco cut that he had the stylist pop by the concert venue for a pre-show trim.

I am deeply saddened by this stunning loss. Marco was a wonderfully talented and loving person who always restored my spirits with a beautiful haircut and much laughter about life. I will miss you very much Marco. You made the world a more beautiful place.

I am in disbelief that Marco, the only one allowed to touch my hair, has passed away. Besides his creativity when syling my hair, we also connected in so many ways. He will trully be missed.

This is such very, very sad news for me. I have not seen Marco in a very long time. Not only was he incredibily talented but he had a fabulous sense of humour, outrageous personal style and a wicked unbounded sense of humour. I often told him he was one of the most beautiful men I had ever met BOTH inside and out! He really was gorgeous. May God bless this wonderful soul!

I am saddened by the news of Marco. Fond memories of the old barber chair, him stomping the floor as he laughed while wearing his biker boots. He had a wonderful gift; not only his talent but his sincere dynamic personality. My heart goes to his family & friends. He will be missed by all.

I am in shock. I have been a client of Marcos’s for several years. Marco always gave me a good cut, but even more important, I always left feeling special. I will miss his lovely personality and feel for his family and friends who have to carry on without him. Feel proud to have known him and been his friend

So sad to lose such a talented and kind spirited person. He was the best hair dresser I’ve ever seen anywhere. He just had a very specific way of making a woman look beautiful. I know that a lot of woman are going to miss him!
