The fan-girl Q&A: Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir

Comments

If you were anywhere near a television during the Vancouver Olympics, you’ll be familiar with the names Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. You’ll remember their killer moves, their gold medal for ice dancing, and most importantly, their undeniable chemistry. While the two haven’t dated since they were teens, there must’ve been millions of viewers across the country plotting their futures together. So it seems fitting that the two teamed up for the launch of The Body Shop’s new Body Butter Duos ($16 each, at The Body Shop locations across Canada), given that they’re constantly connected in our minds (and dreams). The newly available body butter duo offers the same old goodness but split into two, offering both normal- and dry-skin coverage. (They’re majorly delicious. We love macadamia.)

While at the launch last month, we had the chance to go über-fan on the dancing duo and quiz them on things that may or may not have had anything to do with how soft their skin is.

Vancouver: Some (subtly) patriotic souveniers to bring home from Olympics

I’ve been picking up patriotic souvenirs all over the place, but I’ve started thinking that it might be a better strategy going forward (now that the Games are almost over…I’m shedding a tear here) to focus on items that I’ll still want to wear after March (and yes, before the 2012 Olympics in London). Here, the first of my Canadian-but-not-too-Canadian souvenirs that I’m betting will survive longer than my red mittens: Read more »

Fashion news: Burberry in 3-D, Naomi Campbell moves to Moscow and some hair advice for Robert Pattinson

Burberry pulled off a neat trick yesterday where they convinced fashion VIPs in New York, Paris, Tokyo and Dubai to watch the live stream wear 3-D glasses. [WWD, sub req'd]

GQ has some choice words for Rpattz regarding his greasy BAFTAs hair: “Please pull it together. Or slick it back. Something.” [GQ]

Some fresh details have emerged in the news that bloggers have been included as voters for the CFDA awards. Turns out that bloggers weren’t just simply sent ballots, but actually had to ask to get them, and only then will the CFDA review the request and make the decision as to whether their blogger status is deemed worthy to vote [The Cut] Read more »

Vancouver: A very furry take on the hockey jersey

Rebecca Tay models the Fursey (fur + jersey!)

No sane Canadian would deny that hockey is our game and I’ve gotta say that The Fursey (thefursey.com) is probably the most appropriate (albeit non-official) piece of merchandise I’ve seen so far. They’re produced by an American company who can take any jersey (even a Canadian red and white one, of course) and add a furry lining to make a Nanook of the North-meets-Olympic pride statement. Prices vary, and they’re only available in Vancouver until the games close on Sunday. I can’t think of a better way to cheer on the boys when they (fingers crossed) make it to the gold medal game.

The Culture Club: Top 6 places in Vancouver to get a cold beer during the Olympics

The bar at Market by Jean-Georges in Vancouver

Ashleigh Dempster and Amanda Blakley call themselves cultural curators. Their club, The Society (thesocietyglobal.com), hosts high- and low-arty happenings in Toronto, L.A. and New York (and on March 25, Miami!)—from literary salons to graffiti tours and the always hotly-anticipated S.M.U.T. Soiree—so we can think of no better pair to write our new feature, The Culture Club. Every Thursday, they’ll be bringing you a weekly list of six culture picks for Toronto (and beyond)—everything from the best airplane reads to late-night eats to the top gallerists.

First up (and early this week): The top 6 places to get a cold beer in Vancouver during the Olympics.

The Shore Club (688 Dunsmuir St., 604-899-4400). We love the dark woods, California blinds and subdued interior. It’s also a stone’s throw from Holt Renfrew. Sit at the bar and order a Rickard’s White– refreshing after shopping til you drop in the Pacific Centre. Read more »

The daily steal: Patriotic rain boots, $80

Among the plethora of Olympic-inspired hoodies, T-shirts, hats and parkas, we have seen very little in the way of footwear. If you’re on the hunt for something to wear while you stomp in the stands at today’s Canada vs. Germany game, these limited edition maple leaf–emblazoned rain boots from Rockport ($80, at Ronsons locations in Vancouver, ronsons.ca, and the Yonge Street, Toronto Eaton Centre and Carrefour Laval Rockport stores) are a good score.
