Vote! Who wore it best at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Emerging Talent awards?

Comments

Industry darling Joseph Altuzarra was named the 2011 recipient of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award for emerging talent last night in New York. Altuzarra, known for his complex seaming and fitted pants, won a $300,000 cash prize and a mentorship program from the CFDA’s Business Advisory Committee including Anna Wintour and CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg. Macabre jeweler Pamela Love and newcomers Shane Gabier and Chris Peters of Creatures of the Wind both won runner up prizes of $100,000 each.

Meanwhile, on the red carpet, the bright young things were out in full American-made force, decked out in everything from fellow nominees Cushnie et Ochs and Suno to the event’s title speaker Calvin Klein. Oh, and Jenna Lyons was there too. (“Nothing to see here, folks!”)

To be fair, loose curls are nothing new, but there’s something so simple about the red carpet hair of both Selena Gomez and Amanda Seyfried. Gomez, at the Fulfillment Fund Stars Gala in Beverly Hills, can sometimes overdo it with extensions and pageant-worthy curls, but here she’s achieved a more natural, broken-up wave. Her stylist used a 1-inch Enzo Milano clipless curling iron, wrapping big sections of the hair horizontally. Seyfriend’s style (done for the premiere of In Time in London) is slightly more polished, but still avoids that “fresh off the curling iron” look—the rest of her hair is sleek, leaving the focus on a few key ringlets around her face. TIFF round-up: Colin Farrell gets in photographer’s face, teary-eyed Jennifer Connelly and more

Comments

FMtiff09farrell51Colin Farrell took time out from walking the red carpet to single out a London-based freelance photographer. After Joe Alvarez yelled for everyone to clear the carpet so he could get a solo shot of Farrell, the star got aggressive in defence of his red-carpet companion: his sister.  Grabbing Alvarez by the neck, Farrell said, “You don’t yell at my sister like that.” Alvarez insists Farrell overreacted and is contemplating laying charges.
