Fashion news: Marc Jacobs poses nude, Tavi is number 1 and the perpetual catfight between Ford and Next

If you think animals fight for their mates, you should see Ford and Next go at it over models. Ford has sued Next three times for stealing models, and now Next is counter-suing, after one of their agents (with three of their prized models) jumped to Ford. Drama! [The Cut]

Taking one for the team, Marc Jacobs is the model for his first men’s fragrance in a decade.  Aptly named, Bang, it’s first ad features a lubed-up Jacobs lying naked with an oversized cologne bottle between his legs. Lets just hope none of the older, leathery designers decide to follow suit. [Huffington Post] Read more »

Video: Miss J does his best Tyra impression at the Holts celebrity runway walk-off

Miss J Alexander, runway coach on  America’s Next Top Model, put a group of Toronto media personalities through the catwalk wringer this past Saturday. As if strutting their stuff for Miss J in sky-high Jimmy Choos (well, the women at least) wasn’t enough to give contestants the jitters, they were also being critiqued by Elmer Olsen of Elmer Olsen Model Management, National Post columnist Shinan Govani and MTV’s Jessi Cruickshank. But feeding off the fast beats being spun by DJ Joel Dubin and the energy from a raucous crowd, the competition got fierce. However, as Miss J pointed out in his best Tyra voice, there can only be one winner, and that title went to Ciara Hunt, editor-in-chief of Hello! Canada. The runner-up was MTV‘s Dan Levy, whose After Show co-host, Cruickshank, noted:  “It’s been a dream of mine, a lifelong dream of mine, to just be able to sit back and judge you.”

Whether it’s for his flamboyant fashion risks or the one-liners that zing out while coaching the mannequin wannabes on America’s Next Top Model, Miss J Alexander has become a household name. ANTM fanatics will want to hit up the shoe department at Holt Renfrew‘s Bloor Street (50 Bloor St. W., 416-922-2333) location on Saturday, March 13 at 2 p.m. to see the runway expert in the flesh! Miss J will be critiquing some as-yet unnamed celebrities in a runway walk-off and then the catwalk will be open to those brave enough to show off their best model march. Once the fashion show is over, Miss J will be holding a book signing for his recently published part memoir/part style guide/part confidence booster Follow the Model.

Editors shouldn’t get too disgruntled over people who aren’t them sitting in the front row at Fashion Week. Apparently it doesn’t mean much anymore anyway. [The Cut]

Donna Karan addressed the effect of the Internet and early fashion shows on the industry. She told the crowd at Parsons The New School for Design last week: “When I launched my company, the shows were in April and May, now they’re in February. So my question to this industry, and I say it to myself for my own company: ‘Why am I showing clothes in February?’ I don’t want the consumer to see next week what is going to be in stores in Fall, because it’s confusing.” [My Fashion Life]

André Leon Talley has signed on to film three seasons of America’s Next Top Model. Replacing Miss J on the judging panel, the Vogue editor and caftan fan brings with him 13 custom-made Chado Ralph Rucci robes and tendency toward sublime ridiculousness. [The Cut] Read more »

That lower-priced Balmain line? Not happening. Never was. Says a company spokesperson: “What I think you might be referring to is a capsule collection that was prepared for some Parisian retailers. Christophe Decarnin wasn’t involved in that project. The brand has decided to not repeat the experience, preferring to concentrate all its efforts on the main line.” [Vogue UK]
