Her Madgesty pulled out all the vintage stops for her performance at last night’s Superbowl, including a flashback to every fashion’s gals favourite of her songs, “Vogue!” Complete with multiple covers of the magazine on screens, the Queen of Pop gave the ole monthly a good minute long plug, and according to The Cut, it seems that the Queen of Fashion is pleased:

“We’re thrilled and so very grateful to Madonna to have been part of such a spectacular performance. We naturally expect a new audience of football fans.”

Quotable: Rose Byrne seeks hair inspiration from Anna Wintour

Comments

We already gushed over Rose Byrne’s Joe Fresh makeup at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, but now the actress reveals the inspiration behind her red carpet hair. It might sound like an unconventional pairing, but it’s actually a spot-on description for Byrne’s sleek bob:

“It’s Scarface-inspired. It’s like Scarface meets Anna Wintour.”

Vote! Who wore it best at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Emerging Talent awards?

Comments

Industry darling Joseph Altuzarra was named the 2011 recipient of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award for emerging talent last night in New York. Altuzarra, known for his complex seaming and fitted pants, won a $300,000 cash prize and a mentorship program from the CFDA’s Business Advisory Committee including Anna Wintour and CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg. Macabre jeweler Pamela Love and newcomers Shane Gabier and Chris Peters of Creatures of the Wind both won runner up prizes of $100,000 each.

Meanwhile, on the red carpet, the bright young things were out in full American-made force, decked out in everything from fellow nominees Cushnie et Ochs and Suno to the event’s title speaker Calvin Klein. Oh, and Jenna Lyons was there too. (“Nothing to see here, folks!”)

Toronto’s jewellery darling Maryam Keyhani makes it to the bigtime

Comments

While she may be our little secret now, we’re dealing with the fact that soon we’re going to have to share Toronto’s Maryam Keyhani with the rest of the world. Keyhani, a self-taught jewellery designer, is making it to the big time. Last month, Keyhani was selected to show her Spring 2012 collection as part of Vogue Italia’s annual new talent showcase in Milan (guests included fashion power players like, ahem, Anna Wintour). And just last night, one of Keyhani’s pieces was spotted on Freida Pinto, worn with a Calvin Klein cocktail number at the ELLE Women in Hollywood Tribute Event!

Keyhani is an artiste in the true sense of the word, and as such, the work that goes into her pieces is just as beautiful to look at as the pieces themselves. Check out some of the sketches for her Fall 2011 collection, which is available exclusively at Holt Renfrew (for now, that is).

It’s official, and it’s officially great! The Met has confirmed Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada as the subjects of next spring’s exhibition and ball

Prada's Spring and Fall 2011 collections shot by Peter Stigter.

Sweet, sweet, surrealist joy. The Met’s Costume Institute has confirmed next spring’s mega exhibit, Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada: On Fashion, set to run from May 10 through August 19, 2012. As we originally reported in August, the exhibit will focus on the connections between the two Italian designers who, while working in completely different eras, share proclivities for the oddball, uncanny, and arty—Schiaparelli with her ’30s collabs with Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau, and Prada with her ongoing relationships with some of today’s best known architects, artists, and foundations.

They said/We said: The fashion week feud rages on, with Milan firing back!

Comments

Photography by Peter Stigter

You’ve already heard about the kafuffle caused by fashion week scheduling next fall, that timing for MFW is going to overlap with both LFW and PFW. Quelle horror! To make matters much worse, a press release surfaced this morning from the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana in which Milan responds to New York, London, and Paris’ unwillingness to alter their fashion week schedules, and claiming that a written agreement from 2010 had MFW scheduled to take place between the 19th and 25th of September—as per usual—and which they’ve decided they’ll stick to. Dun dun dun…

But here comes the real drama: today’s statement from the Italian board of directors reads: “Such an accuse, in addition to representing an aggressive and arrogant attitude towards CNMI, used unfair argumentation in order to impose—in a unilateral way—not shared decisions. In conclusion, the Board of Directors and the Designers’ Roundtable have unanimously decided to confirm the schedule as it was previously announced on March 17th 2010: [MFW] will be held from Wednesday 19th to Tuesday 25th of September 2012.”
