Would you buy two nail polishes for $600? A rare set by Louis Vuitton is up for auction!

Comments

Fashionphile, an eBay vendor slash online consignment store, has just listed something that will have diehard nail polish fanatics salivating: a set of Louis Vuitton nail polishes. The colours are nothing remarkable—bright cherry red and pearly beige—but they’re significant because, well, Louis Vuitton doesn’t make nail polishes. Or at least not anymore. It’s unclear when and where this discontinued set came from, but the $600 price tag indicates just how much of a collector’s item they are. Louis Vuitton polishes do pop up on eBay every once and a while—a duo of gold and brown LV polishes sold in 2005 for the much more affordable price of $60. Guess the nail polish boom affects us all!

The curator of the Passion for Fashion sale, Kerry Taylor (kerrytaylorauctions.com), has some of the most elegant pieces on offer, many designed personally for Hepburn by couturier Hubert de Givenchy. Hepburn has often been regarded as Givenchy’s muse, though she is known to have worked alongside the famed designer, who credited her eye for selecting and sometimes toning down the detailing of his garments as the key ingredient in her timeless style.
