We recently got the opportunity to go to the L’Oréal Color Trophy and having heard about the out and out spectacle of the presentation, we hopped a plane to Montreal and took our videographer with us. The Color Trophy awards styling teams from across Canada for creating a look that brings together hairstyle, colour and makeup, and the le tout of the Canadian salon world attends the over-the-top ceremony. (For those of you who haven’t been to a hair show, the people watching is fantastic. This is a world where statement hair rules. We spotted rockabilly bangs, teased out bouffants and crazy colour–and that was just the audience. To an editor more accustomed to subdued Toronto hair, it was a visual feast.)

Fashion news: Tony Blair goes luxe, cavewoman beauty and Michael Kors, video game hero

Photography by Peter Stigter
Our gamer prayers have been answered: A video game based on Project Runway launches March 2. According to WWD, Tim Gunn, Heidi Klum and Michael Kors “don’t carry Uzis, kill monsters or zoom along city streets in souped-up hot rods, ” but that would be amazing! [WWD]

Of hair and fromage: The Contessa Awards

This past Sunday, the 21st annual Contessa Awards invaded Toronto’s Sheraton Centre with pastel curls and neon updos. The Contessas, put on by Salon Magazine, are like the Oscars of Canadian hair. Or maybe the Daytime Emmys, at least in terms of cheese level. Nowhere else can you see boy band dancers with lightsabres or models wearing spangled leggings and sporting wigs that look like bright yellow challah bread. All of this delicious fromage is in honour of country’s top stylists, makeup artists and nail art masters and we watch with relish, year after year.
Click the images below to see photos from the show and some of the winning entries. (With thanks to Lesa and Siofan)

Charlottetown: New (fashion) Royalty
It might come as a surprise to some that Charlottetown has a killer local music scene. The Danks, Smothered in Hugs, The Robots and Two Hours Traffic (whose music has been featured on The O.C., and who were recently nominated for a couple of Verge music awards) are just a few of the local bands that are beginning to make serious waves on a national scale. Night of the TV stars

FASHION’s Rani Sheen guest blogs from the Geminis.
Canada’s TV personalities turned out in their awards-show best on Friday night for the 23rd Annual Gemini Awards in Toronto. The InterContinental’s soaring glass lobby was a grand setting for pre-show cocktails, although the Metro Toronto Convention Centre’s basement was a slightly less glamorous venue for the awards.
