Video: Baptiste Giabiconi’s first single is Ke$ha-meets-Jersey Shore

Comments

Baptiste Giabiconi wants to add pop star to his resumé, which as far as we can tell only includes an entry for “Karl Lagerfeld’s muse.” Giabiconi has released the music video for his first single, “Showtime,” which he previewed in October on French television. The 50 Cent–mixed track seems heavily influenced by Ke$ha’s glitter-pop sound while the video’s styling is a little Jersey Shore. (Is that you, Pauly D?) Giabiconi’s album is set to release in March 2011.

Though it wasn’t part of Alexander McQueen‘s final collection in Paris last spring, feast your eyes on what may have been the last piece that the late designer touched. The silk swan dress, made for long-time pal Annabelle Neilson is a far cry from the more notorious McQueen pieces she’s worn in the past (a sheer jumpsuit, anyone?).  She wore this beauty to Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball in June. Hilary Duff tied the knot this weekend with Edmonton Oiler Mike Comrie. Duff wore a Vera Wang dress of which there is only blurry cell phone pic. [Catwalk Queen]

Fashion news: Kate Moss is shy, Abbey Lee and Dree Hemingway drown in Chanel bags, and will Uncle Karl be on Gossip Girl?

Comments

Karl Lagerfeld has just released another short film featuring Dree Hemmingway and Abbey Lee taking a breather after a Chanel spree, hence the film’s title Shopping Fever. Of course, a Lagerfeld short wouldn’t be a Lagerfeld short without Baptiste Giabiconi smouldering expertly at the camera. [The Cut]

More in Lagerfeld-related news: He was spotted with Blake Lively leaving the Ritz Carlton in Paris, so naturally rumours of the Kaiser appearing on Gossip Girl are now rampant. We hope this is true, but it’s probably not. [Glamour]

Fashion news: David Lynch directs Dior, Lagerfeld uses yellowface and Julia Roberts for Lancôme

Chanel’s Paris-Shanghai collection opened with a video–an imagined alternate history where Coco Chanel takes her first trip to China. In a potentially controversial move, Karl Lagerfeld styled his actors, including models Freja Beha Erichsen and Baptiste Giabiconi, as Chinese characters in yellowface. Lagerfeld defended his decision because of its homage to old films like The Good Earth and Madame Butterfly where European actors played Asian characters, saying, “People around the world like to dress up as different nationalities.” [WWD]

Famed fashion photographer Sam Haskins, who launched his book Fashion Etcetera at Milk Studios earlier this year, died last week at the age of 83. Haskins had suffered two strokes this year, which set him into a depression that led to his suicide.  [WWD] Read more »
