Comments

Beth Ditto, singer and long-time fashion darling (the Kaiser loves her) is the subject of makeup gossip today: M.A.C Cosmetics announced that she has collaborated on a new collection, set to debut in June. No word yet on exactly what we can expect, but some sleuthing around the campaign photo suggests only good things: black liquid liner, bright pink lipstick, nail art, and pastel shades abound. They said/We said: Kate Moss set to marry rock star fiancé tomorrow in the biggest wedding since the other Kate’s

Comments

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’d have heard that Kate Moss is set to marry her rock star fiancé, Jamie Hince, tomorrow. In true Moss style, the wedding is sure to break the mould for celebrity weddings. It’s being described as a three-day extravaganza of music, A-list guests, and unparalleled celebrations—and that’s probably an understatement.

Nicknamed “Mosstock” by the tabloids, the wedding’s musical entertainment is to be provided by Snoop Dogg, Carl Barat, Beth Ditto, Iggy Pop, and Dame Shirley Bassey. As if that stage couldn’t get any more entertaining, it’s likely the supermodel herself will serve up some amateur karaoke.

It’s rumoured that close friend John Galliano will design the bride’s gown. As Moss is always one for a well-placed scandal, it’s more or less expected. Recently, the designer’s whereabouts have been unknown, but rumours have been circling that he’s been in New York working on the dress.

Guests are not permitted to bring cameras (or snap photos with their smart phones) as the wedding will be professionally documented by none other than Mario Testino. To top it all off, one of the shots will be featured on the cover of Vogue’s September issue. Mosstock sounds like the be-all-and-end-all to weddings everywhere, but the couple did sign a pre-nuptial agreement. That could appear to foreshadow a grim ending, but who would really be opposed to a second Moss wedding in the future?

Paris notes: Headline-grabbing models are the biggest trend in Paris [gallery]

Comments

Photography by Peter Stigter

One of the biggest trends of this Paris runway season has nothing to do with the clothes. Veteran and novelty models have appeared at many shows: Yasmin Le Bon and Angela Lindvall at John Galliano, Amber Valletta, Stella Tennant and Gisele Bündchen at Balenciaga, Anna Dello Russo at Ungaro. But nowhere was the headline-grabbing model message stronger than at Jean Paul Gaultier, who opened and closed his show with the buxom Beth Ditto. The thing about putting larger women on the runway alongside regular models–it always makes the skinny girls look so wrong. Read more »

Fashion news: Robin Kay speaks out about the Holts FWeek breakfast [updated], Canadians are safe shoppers and Shu Uemura to cease U.S. operations

Allegations made by models of  Terry Richardson‘s inappropriate behaviour haven’t seemed to effect his career or his reputation, as the photographer was back to work, shooting model Doutzen Kroes for Vogue in Miami yesterday. [Vogue UK]

FDCC prez Robin Kay spoke out at yesterday’s Holt Renfrew‘s media breakfast, which showcased work from five Canadian designers who don’t show at LG Fashion Week. (Watch for our coverage of the event later today.) Holts brought in Vogue writer Mark Holgate, who will not be attending the main event at the Allstream Centre [UPDATE: Mark Holgate attended the IZMA show on Sunday night with Holt Renfrew's communications director, Moira Wright.] Kay told the Toronto Star: “Holt Renfrew is a sponsor – with their largesse they should have made a point of bringing that gentleman to the site to see that we are a fashion week and to see designers he may not have heard of. That’s a sponsor’s duty and responsibility.” For Holts’ part, their fashion VP Barbara Atkin said: ““[Bringing these designers to fashion week] is something we’ve talked about and we are in discussions about.” [Toronto Star, via Toronto Life]

With J.Crew scouting locations and Victoria’s Secret‘s plans to open four north-of-the-49th stores, Canada has become the ‘it’ place for retailers looking to open international stores–because we’re nearby and not that exotic, apparently. Says the Wall Street Journal: “Canadians tend to be slower, steadier shoppers than Americans, with a preference for higher-quality goods and more interest in outdoor looks.” Gotta love the stereotypes, eh. HERMÈS Fall 2009. Photography by Peter Stigter

What day is it? Which show am I at? What’s my name? I’ve started to slip into the delusional state that is called “almost the end of fashion week”, where it all becomes a blur of coltish legs and directional hair. Get on the metro, wait in line, clothes, pretty! Get on the metro, wait in line, clothes, pretty! Get lost on the metro, wait in line, clothes, pretty!
