Marc Jacobs, who recently posed nude for the campaign of his latest men’s fragrance Bang, explained the process in an interview with Calvin Klein. “There’s nothing I can wear in this ad that isn’t going to look ridiculous. At one point, I tried jeans and a shirt, and it didn’t work. So then Juergen said, ‘Take off the clothes.’ So I did, and that became the ad…I did feel good about the way I looked, so it was easy and—well, a guy looks better to me with no clothes on than with clothes!” [Harper's Bazaar]

Despite the fact that you can hardly walk two strides without tripping over a Zara or an H&M, both European fast fashion retailers will open their online boutiques this September. No tripping necessary. [Guardian] Read more »

Does Janie Bryant ever sleep? The Mad Men costume designer, who has also created clothing line for sale on QVC, a nail polish range and vlogs for Banana Republic, has now teamed up with the 88-year-old brassiere brand Maidenform to work on a viral marketing campaign. Will be as successful as the legendary “I dreamed I…” campaign from the 50s and 60s? Only YouTube will tell… [Fashionista]

T’was tweeted: “thanks vanity fair for NOT crediting me in the story….VANITY UN-FAIR …..agrhhh!!!!” Argh indeed, according to stylist Nicola Formichetti, the man behind the much-buzzed gray-haired Lady Gaga Vanity Fair shoot, the mag didn’t credit him for his work. And off to Twitter it went. [@formichetti via Racked] Read more »

Baby’s first Lagerfeld: The Kaiser designs a doll

Comments

dec09readsprincesskarlHow is it possible that Karl Lagerfeld has so much free time on his hands? Aside from designing his own line and the multitude of Chanel collections, it seems like every other day the man releases some ancillary project. Does he never sleep?

Anyway, today’s announcement comes in the form of a princess doll created for Parisian toy shoppe Au Nain Bleu. Proceeds from the 220 euro doll will go to support the Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Foundation, which helps fight social inequality through culture and education. There is also a 830 euro lace, silk and tulle girl’s dress that can be worn for some super-haute version of dress-up.

Carla Bruni can still sing, fit into children’s clothing

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy performed a duet of The Beatles tune “And I Love Her” with Harry Connick Jr. on French channel Canal Plus earlier in the week. The pair recently recorded a bossa nova cover of the tune as a bonus track on the European version of Connick Jr.’s new album. The song wasn’t the only McCartney family shout-out on stage–Bruni-Sarkozy wore the “Miller” marching band jacket from the Stella McCartney for Gap Kids collection.

The video is here. Jump to 4:45 to see a micro clip of the duet, a mostly French interview with the pair and several glamour shots of the jacket. [WWD]

The new line Mise en Scene by Ruffian designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais has hit Anthropologie. The lower-priced collection of clothing and home décor was inspired by starlet dressing rooms in films like All About Eve and Stage Fright. The classic Ruffian style of sharp tailoring and classic, elegant fabrics are still there, but for a price that (probably) won’t give you buyer’s remorse. [Racked]

Vera Wang opted out of Dancing with the Stars but not because she can’t dance. Apparently ABC refused to let Vera Wang design her own costumes for the show. You just don’t do that. [FWD]
