They said/We said: Eco-fashion reaches the red carpet with Chanel, Gucci, Tom Ford, and others creating pieces for the Golden Globes

Green is the new black. At least according to Chanel, Gucci, and the nine other stellar brands that have all pledged to create eco-friendly designs for this season’s red carpets.

It’s all part of Livia Firth’s (otherwise known as Colin Firth’s wife and the luckiest woman in the world) Green Carpet Challenge (GCC), an initiative she started with journalist Lucy Siegle two years ago. Since then, the movement has garnered some serious support from fashion heavyweights like Frida Giannini, Franca Sozzani, and Tom Ford.

Starting with the Golden Globes this Sunday, the designers will create gowns, accessories, and suits conforming to the GCC’s design principles. As to who will wear what, everything is very hush-hush. Firth, however, has announced that she will be wearing a Giorgio Armani creation made entirely from eco-friendly fabrics.

During the past two award seasons, Firth has only worn environmentally friendly gowns on the red carpet—including a repurposed wedding gown and a cocktail dress made from scrap fabric. Perhaps the most famous of them all was a gown made from her husband’s old Tom Ford suits. Yes. Please.

Pictures of Firth’s dresses along with the other eco-friendly creations will be available on vogue.com starting January 15.

Video: Jac stars in a cute teaser for Chanel’s Spring makeup and nail polish!

Comments

If you’d forgotten all about Chanel’s trio of nail polishes for Spring—or perhaps you were just distracted by the shiny introduction of Diwali!—the luxury brand has released a teaser video that’s sure to make it top of mind. Starring Monika ‘Jac’ Jagaciak (who walked in their Spring 2012 show) it’s hard not to start tapping your feet while watching the snappy video. We also love that Chanel has put the focus on peachy-orange shades: Remember the Pantone colour of the year? How appropriate.

Move over, cat eyes. It’s time for the kitten flick. (And we teach you how to do it!)

Ready to try the kitten flick? We show you how to do it in 3 easy steps »

As seen on the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2012 runway, the kitten flick is a shorter version of the traditional cat eye. It has the retro appeal of winged black liner without looking too overdone. All this means: it’s your best bet for looking bright-eyed and on trend, be it at the office or out with friends.

They said/We said: French Elle and German Glamour reuse a 2010 Vogue cover photo of Carey Mulligan. Scandal!

Comments

Love Carey Mulligan? Well, you can certainly see the rising star everywhere. In the exact same photograph. The cover shot, which first graced Vogue’s October 2010 issue, has now made its way onto the latest issues of Fresh Elle and German Glamour. Holy triple vision! While there a few slight (read: photoshopped) differences in the covers, its quite obviously the same image. And the same Chanel couture, mind you.

Photo sharing between magazines happens fairly often, when the image’s rights belong to the photographer rather than the magazine, or sometimes when shared between international issues of the same title. The image’s past though, should always be fully disclosed which leads us to wonder how this snafu happened in the first place? Did the magazines not realize where the image had originally been featured? Did they know, and choose to overlook it instead? We expect some damage control in the very near future.
