Quotable: Haider Ackermann drops not one, but two Dior hints!

Comments

In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Colombian-born and Paris-based designer Haider Ackermann drops two very Dior-sounding hints. The first, in relation to potentially wanting to work for the house, he says:

“There are two houses I would be interested in. Two where I feel there is shared sensibility, and I could bring something else of myself to the house, which isn’t expressed in my own line.”

Ooh la la! Could Chanel be the other? The second, in relation to the supposed performance pressure designers are under (ahem, John Galliano), he says:

“Look, let’s be honest. You can’t just blame the system. We are all responsible for our own lives. I find it difficult when people complain about the pressure. This is fashion, it’s not surgery. It’s a job; a job with a lot of dreams woven in.”

Nail Corner: A floral-print manicure for spring inspired by Denis Gagnon

Comments

Floral prints were in full bloom in our spring trend report and given that we seem to be experiencing the balmiest March weather on record, a floral manicure was a natural choice for this week’s Nail Corner. From Marni and Mary Katrantzou to Erdem and Prabal Gurung, flowers were bright and best done in matchy-matchy all-over arrangements. And, because we’re right in the middle of Toronto Fashion Week, it seemed appropriate to seek inspiration from one of our favourite TFW Spring 2012 shows: Denis Gagnon.

Having thoroughly fallen in love with their gemstone brows, it only took a day to find something else to obsess over from Chanel’s Fall 2012 beauty offerings. Are you ready? It’s “Frenzy,” a pale mushroom shade that’s due on counters this fall. Just when we were about to claim exhaustion over neutral nail polishes, the Chanel effect hits. Hard. Read more »

Afternoon beauty fix: How to make your dewy skin look last from morning to night!

Comments

What’s the best way to make dewy skin stay put? It’s my go-to texture but it tends to disappear halfway through the day.
There are a few tricks to having the same healthy-looking skin when you come home at night as you did when you left for work in the morning. Once you’re done towelling off your face after cleansing, use a synthetic brush to massage a water-based foundation into your skin while it’s still a little damp—capturing the excess water will help make your skin appear supple. Chanel Vitalumière Aqua foundation ($55, at department stores) has medium coverage but is an extremely lightweight formula that will give your skin a good-looking glow. Next, set your makeup in place by using a small powder brush to apply translucent powder around your mouth and beneath your eyes—but not over your high points, like your cheekbones, where your skin catches the light. A brush with a smaller head than your typical puffy powder brush will give you more accuracy and prevent pigment from flying all over your face and ruining the dew. The size and shape of Quo Dual Sided foundation brush ($27, at Shoppers Drug Mart) makes it perfect for precision but, even better, it works as both a double-sided synthetic and natural brush.

If you’re of a certain age (read: late 20s), Gwen Stefani will forever be just a girl covered in bindis. And if you’re like me, her style inspired you to stick a few gemstones on your own brow back in the ‘90s. Well, it’s time to check if you still have a stash of mini baubles: face decoration is coming back! While add-on embellishments are already trending for Spring, this morning’s Miu Miu show continued the brow party that Chanel started yesterday—meaning the trend is sticking around throughout Fall. What’s in your bag, Amy Burstyn-Fritz?

Comments

Photography by Erin Seaman

Today we’re going inside the bag belonging to our favourite marketing/public relations/art world gal about town, Amy Burstyn-Fritz. Known for her killer wardrobe (“Oh this? It’s Katrantzou”), and her ability to be the life of the party—even at 10 a.m. (“Are you going to finish that?”), Burstyn is equally awesome on all accounts. Her linen Yves Saint Laurent Muse bag is equally awesome. So without further ado, let’s check it out!
