Say hello to the new Dior? What Raf Simons could mean for the ladylike aesthetic of the legendary house
Is Dior eschewing ladylike in favour of bold restraint? After a virtual explosion of excited rumours on Twitter last night, WWD is now reporting that Jil Sander creative director Raf Simons is closing in on a deal to become John Galliano’s replacement at Dior. Known for his brightly hued and minimalist/maximalist designs, Simons might not be the first designer you’d associate with Dior’s aesthetic, but in his recent collections he’s shown an interest in couture techniques— he has even incorporated ball gowns and bridal looks, all of which have garnered rave reviews from critics.

Video: Watch a make-believe game of Dior pinball!
Ever been to a designer arcade? Neither have we. In this new video just released on Nowness, Dior’s collections, specifically its iconic pearl necklace, have been reimagined as a classic game of pinball, only this time, the machine is a white Louis XIV chair, its insides are quilted white leather, and its bullseyes are J’Adore Dior bottle, a Lady Dior bag, and a bar jacket. The prize? We’d like one for each day of the week…

PFW diary: A carousel of confections at Louis Vuitton close out Paris Fashion Week
With the rumour mill still churning about Marc Jacobs’ impending new home (or house, actually) at Christian Dior, the Louis Vuitton show was one of the hottest tickets in town. Starting promptly at 10 a.m., glam front-row guests like Olivia Wilde, Natalia Vodianova, and Delphine Arnault (daughter of LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault) quickly took their seats as a giant round curtain went up to reveal the most magical sight: a whitewashed carousel packed with the show’s models atop moving horses. One by one they stepped off the carousel and walked the circular runway in gorgeous confections that looked like they came straight from Ladurée: organza-wrapped dresses, pastel-coloured laser-cut lace skirts, powdered crocodile bags, flower appliqués, diamond wishbone necklaces, mirrored woven metallic bags, and Mary Jane mules. As for that famous name who closed the show? Wearing a sequined and feathered minidress and tiara, Princess Kate (as in Moss) was the final fairy to grace this fashion fairytale.
