London street style: Big (flower) love

We’re great lovers of wrapping ourselves in a big warm topper, so it’s hard to resist this Lovely’s beautiful robe coat. The oversized purple motif is smartly cropped so you never quite see that it’s a flower (just right for avoiding any granny connotations).

Street style: Mint vintage

FMlovelyJan10c_196

Lovely in…An over-the-top vintage topper

Spotted: King and Sherbourne Streets, Toronto

Wearing: A coat from her vintage resale business, Cozette (cozettedesigns.com), a vintage belt picked up in San Francisco, Zara shoes and a dress from Winners.

Why: We love simple chic of a little black belted dress, but it’s the coat that makes this outfit an original.

Comrags' take on the Bay's point blanket coat

Back in October, we told you about the Bay’s new line of Canadiana–The Hudson’s Bay Company Collection–the brings canoes, paddles and point blankets together with collaborations with Canadian fashion names such as Pink Tartan, Harricana and Virginia Johnson. The line launched Tuesday night at a packed cocktail party where guests noshed on de rigueur nouveau comfort food–grilled cheese sandwiches with homemade ketchup, potatoes with bison tartare and maple syrup poured over freezer-made snow. The big attraction of the evening was the official unveiling of ten one-of-a-kind coats–together dubbed The Blanket Statement–that the Bay commissioned from a group of Canadian designers who played with the iconic point blanket. GAUDET Fall 2009

GAUDET Fall 2009

Design duo Norm and Gio Gaudet (gaudetfashionhouse.com) have one goal: to get you to ditch that basic black winter coat in favour of one of their bold and bright pieces. The pair, who specializes in hand felting techniques, showed their first collection at LG Fashion Week on Wednesday. They took a moment after the show to talk to us backstage about Canadian winters, poppies and the baby of the family.
