Lipstick is bright, bold and iridescent. Fragrance is intoxicatingly opulent, steeped in history. And counterculture strolls down memory lane, redefining drugstore cool.

Design duo Norm and Gio Gaudet (gaudetfashionhouse.com) have one goal: to get you to ditch that basic black winter coat in favour of one of their bold and bright pieces. The pair, who specializes in hand felting techniques, showed their first collection at LG Fashion Week on Wednesday. They took a moment after the show to talk to us backstage about Canadian winters, poppies and the baby of the family.

Some ladies play it safe in blustery, snowy weather. They choose sensible, thick, black tights and pair them with warm, cozy boots and lined wool trousers. These practical women likely have mothers who sleep easy at night knowing their daughters are not going to freeze for fashion’s sake, by glances of approval from their like-minded peers and by being toasty warm in the bitter Canadian cold.
