After being in the news for looking surprisingly thin in recent photos, Crystal Renn‘s agent asserted she was still a “solid size 10.” She’s been hiking a lot lately, perhaps explaining why she looks so toned. [The Cut] Read our interview with Crystal Renn from the August issue. Read more »

FASHION editor frolics in the Chanel No. 5 meadows

We'll call it L'eau de Bernadette

With frequent email and twitter updates, we’ve been (jealously) following acting editor-in-chief Bernadette Morra play petanque with Diane Kruger, see Crystal Renn strut in Chanel’s 2011 Cruise collection and watch the debut of Karl Lagerfeld‘s Remember Now – all in St-Tropez. In her latest installation she’s moved on to the town of Grasse in the French Alps, where she visited the fields where fresh rose petals are grown and concocted into Chanel No. 5.

Click the photo’s below to see Bernadette’s adventures at the Chanel No. 5 factory

It’s a good day for Canadian fashion, The Bay has just announced its place as a partner in the National Association for the Development of the Fashion Arts (ANDAM) Fashion award. “Partnering with ANDAM is a huge stride for Canada as a fashion authority and resource,” said The Bay’s fashion director, Suzanne Timmins. The ANDAM Fashion award is the world’s largest international fashion prize. Two of this year’s finalists include Canadians Mark Fast and Calla Haynes. The competition is open to fashion designers of any nationality under the age of 40 who plan to show and develop their collections in France.

According to Forbes’ Highest Paid Model list, Brazilian beauty Gisele Bündchen rakes in more cash than any other model. Interestingly, the order of this year’s list is identical to last year’s. Coincidence or copy and paste? [The Cut]

It’s the afternoon after the Chanel cruise show and the party animals are just beginning to stir.

In true St. Tropez form, Karl Lagerfeld threw a bash that went on into the wee hours, with free-flowing champagne, lots of Lady Gaga on the soundtrack, and models in full celebration mode (and flats) to fête Chanel makeup creative director Peter Phillips‘ birthday. Read more »

Fashion news: Apple says no to nipples, Claudia Schiffer looks familiar and Crystal Renn may walk for Chanel

ANNA SUI Fall 2010. Photography by Peter Stigter

British fashion magazine Dazed and Confused christened its first iPad-compatible issue the “Iran Issue,” due to Apple’s insisting they censor all nipples. While Apple (understandably) wants to keep its content squeaky clean, the i-empire may need to realize that a European fashion magazine without nudity is like our magazine without shoes. [Gawker and The Cut]

Chronicle Books has just announced the November release of a 400-page retrospective look at Anna Sui’s 20 years in the biz. The coffee table tome includes fashion spreads, text written by Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton, a preface by Jack White and a foreword by Sui herself. [WWD] Read more »

Toronto Fashion Week: Crystal Renn and Kirsten Owen lead the charge at Joe Fresh

JOE FRESH STYLE Fall 2010. Photography by Jenna Marie Wakani

The Joe Fresh Style show is always a crowd pleaser. Flying in top models (Crystal Renn and Kirsten Owen), debuting the new single from Shawn Desman and filling the front row with local celebs and socialites gave the show must-see buzz. While the last few seasons at Joe have shown crystal clear messages on the runway, last night’s presentation was more of a mash-up of fall’s hottest trends. With fun fur, military, sweatpants, and schoolboy, the show had much more of as street-style focus. Piece by piece, there were lots of lust-haves. Tricked-out biker boots, chain-strap bags, puffy jackets and all of the faux fur bits are sure to be big hits once they hit Loblaw and Real Canadian Superstores in a few months, but the show missed the cult caché of the past few seasons.
