Vancouver: The Dace decade

Ashley Watson handbag

I’m often asked what my favourite local labels are, and Dace (dace.ca) is invariably on my list. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the line, and to celebrate the occasion, designer Dace Moore has asked a handful of other locals to create special pieces that complement her clothing. Mono’s layered leather necklace adds texture to the oversized Ginger blazer; a Broken English oxidized silver necklace makes the sweet Cedar silk dress a little more edgy; the Rosemary purse by Ashley Watson (shown, $250) goes with pretty much everything in the milestone collection; and the Sage crochet bikini top was handmade by Moore’s mother—a different type of collaboration.

5 things we love from Dace’s spring collection

One of my all-time favourite Vancouver labels (and arguably the city’s most nationally- and internationally-known) is Dace (dace.ca). Knowing my interns would love designer Dace Moore and marketing and account manager Adele Tetangco as much as I do, we visited the company’s showroom to preview the fall collection. I like Moore’s use of prints, as well as the beautiful lace paneling in many of the tops and dresses. While I was there, I couldn’t resist perusing the racks of spring and summer goodies. Here are my top picks, all available now online.

Get into bed with Dace

Comments

feb09dace_lg

When I got word that Vancouver label Dace had moved into home design, I automatically envisioned my room being transformed into a modern romantic getaway. Using fabric from past season’s collections to create duvets and matching pillow cases ($250 for a set, dace.ca), designer Dace Moore takes her clean lines to bed. The collection is only available online and will be debuted at the end of every season. Also in the line-up are a wool tartan throw ($70) and multi-striped tea towels and cocktail napkins.

Dace’s collection of subtle chic

Comments

aug09dacehorse_lg

Dace Moore’s seven-year-old eponymous line, Dace (dace.ca), is an exercise in deceptive simplicity. While no one would call a collection of pencil skirts, silky blouses and slim-cut pants revolutionary, there’s something to be said for chic subtlety–like the cool girl whose outfits never scream, but nevertheless make you ache to know their origin.  For example, the Fall 2009 collection features pleated pants in a just-so shade of grey and a blouse with a neck-tie that sweeps to mid-shin with more drama than all the neon in the world could muster.

See more looks after the jump.
