FASHION has launched a new online music channel to showcase stylish up-and-coming acts. Every week, our guest editor, MTV Canada’s Dan Levy, picks his favourite summer tracks.

This week: “Come Over” by Estelle ft. Sean Paul

A stand-out track from Estelle’s second album, Shine, “Come Over” is the perfect accompaniment to a backyard BBQ or a romantic dinner for two. So press play, grab that person you’ve been eyeing from across the room and enjoy a dance under the stars.

Video: Delicious dish with Lainey Gossip and Dan Levy at the S.M.U.T. Soiree

We recently attended the S.M.U.T. Soiree, an annual gossip sesh thrown by the culture mavens at The Society. (They also blog for us every Thursday on all things culture.) We took a few moments to chat with smut guru Lainey Gossip and her fellow panelist, MTV Canada’s Dan Levy (Canadian photog George Pimentel also got in on the gossip action) about Lady Gaga, Drake and The Hills. Plus, we polled the crowd on who is the best-dressed celeb right now.

Dan Levy’s FASHION + Music pick: “A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell

“A Case of You” is one of my all time favourite songs, and a perfect tune to accompany any lazy summer day. It was released in 1971 and 39 years later continues to be just as poignant, and just as relevant, as the day it was recorded, proving that truly great music never goes out of style.

Dan Levy’s FASHION + Music pick: “Lose Myself” by Lauryn Hill

This week: “Lose Myself” by Lauryn Hill

This is a song that has been in heavy rotation on my iPod for a couple of summers now. It’s a song many people didn’t know existed by an artist many people didn’t know was still making music.

Lauryn Hill quietly released “Lose Myself” as part of the Surf’s Up motion picture soundtrack–shocking, I know. It’s not only one of the best summer tracks you’ll add to your catalogue, it’s also one of the most honest and heartfelt songs she’s has ever written.

My friend Sarah turned me on to this one–and I haven’t stopped listening to it since. It’s a shiny, tropical, breezy tune that will integrate seamlessly into your summer soundtrack. So slap on the sunblock, roll up those denim cut-offs and let this little tune sing you into a summer siesta.

The Bloor Street Burberry store opened up officially on Wednesday (though we popped in on the weekend to scope it out). The guest list included MTV’s Dan Levy and Jessi Cruickshank, Jeanne Beker and Heroes‘ Ali Larter, who reportedly beat a retreat soon after being snapped in her head-to-toe Burberry ensemble. Brit DJ and Burberry face Tom Guinness flew in from New York to spin tracks from The Kooks, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. The 9,000-square foot space is home to menswear, the Burberry London and Burberry Brit collections, as well as the full complement of accessories–shoes, bags, sunglasses, checked rainboots. On our weekend visit we made a beeline for the second floor to visit the Prorsum runway collection with its toasty tweeds, luscious suede trench coats and just-frayed-enough waffle-weave dresses.

Win passes to Lainey Gossip’s Smut Soiree

Comments

Here at FASHION we hate to gossip. We’ve never even heard of Robert Pattinson or Blake Lively or…BritBrit. Gah! Fine–Brangelina, McGosling, True Blood, JLo! So obviously we’re excited about this: Our favourite dirt disher, Lainey, is hosting her fourth Smut Soiree with the socials at The Society on June 23. The night is a big chat fest with cocktails, hair and makeup touch-ups and a whole lot of tattletaling. The party is totally sold out, but we have a pair of passes to give away. We’ll also be tweeting all night from the secret location.

Lainey will be gabbing with National Post gossip Shinan Govani and a third co-host, who also came to last year’s party. The first person to tell us who it is gets the passes. Dig around here and you’ll find your answer. Email us the answer at fashiondiaries@fashionmagazine.com.

UPDATE: Alright, folks. We have a winner!

**A couple of things:

Only the winner will be contacted.

The party’s in Toronto, so you should either live here or be able to come down on June 23.

There’s a bar (hooray!), so you have to be 19.
