The Linate airport is looking like one chic departure lounge early this morning. Grabbing a coffee before jetting off to Paris is: Style.com‘s Nicole Phelps, the Los Angeles Times’ Booth Moore, WWD‘s Miles Socha. Plus, there’s a whole gaggle of seriously chic NYC cool girls who I’m always sitting next to at shows that (even at my age) have a way of making me feel like the girl in the high school caf who eats alone. But enough about me, I haven’t had two seconds to tell you about the final day of Milan fashion week!

My first week covering the 2010 Winter Games for FASHION was filled with several fashionable appearances courtesy of Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared. First, there was their torch relay in North Van, and on Saturday, I met up with the twins again as they signed autographs at Holt Renfrew (holtrenfrew.com). A huge line awaited the boys (I’ve never seen so many people in the men’s department!), but they were gracious enough to give me a few minutes before meeting their fans. Read more »

Dsquared’s Dean and Dan ran with the Olympic torch–wearing tuxedos, no less–earlier today in North Vancouver. See photos from the run.

Dan and Dean Caten with Jeanne Beker after the torch run. Note the tuxes.
The Olympic torch is officially in Vancouver! This morning, Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared ran it a distance of 300 meters each along Mount Seymour Parkway in North Van. Asked if they did any training to prepare for the run, Dean said he ran a bit on the treadmill, and Dan said he “ran with a bottle of Jack Daniels!” My favourite part: The twins’ “James Bond peel-down,” which revealed dapper bow-ties and tuxedos (and apparently, later on, Dsquared underwear) under their Olympic garb!

Dsquared’s Dean and Dan Caten are going to be carrying the Olympic torch in the relay leading up to February’s Olympic games in Vancouver. The pair are already involved in the Olympic effort, outfitting the performers for the Games’ opening and closing ceremonies.
The designers will be carrying the flame on February 10–the second last day of the relay. The pair will be running along Mount Seymour Parkway in North Vancouver, starting near house 2472. Dean will be setting out at 11:49 a.m. and will pass the torch to Dan at 11:52 a.m. We assume they’re running separately so they can’t draft off of each other. There’s no cheating in torch relay.

Dean and Dan are on a roll. The Caten twins from Willowdale, Ont., (who famously moved to Milan in 1991) recently launched Dsquared eyewear, are starring in the Bravo reality series Launch My Line and have now been immortalized with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. This winter, their fragrances He Wood and She Wood will be joined by Velvet Forest Wood for women, and Rocky Mountain Wood for men. We caught up with them at The Hazelton Hotel in Toronto.
There’s a lot of plastic in your spring collection. What was the inspiration?
Dan: “Spring is a camping theme, with a mom taking her kid to the wilderness. She is a real drama queen with champagne and caviar. They get rained on so there is lots of playing with plastic, including jeans and T-shirts, and insects in plastic jewellery. Everything looks wet.”

Summer is heating up and I’m not only talking about the weather my friends! Montreal is in the middle of the most colorful event of the festival season– Divers/Cité (to August 2, diverscite.org)–and I’ve found the ultimate excuse for us all to dress to impress this Sunday. Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared will be hosting a huge fashionista Drama Queen party at the Tribe Hyperclub (390 St-Jacques St, W.)! Read more »
