Jason Wu to unleash yet more fashion dolls upon the world

It’s not just us, right? Fashion dolls are popping up everywhere. (Click here for a mere sampling.) The latest set are from Jason Wu by way of New York–based dollmaker Madame Alexander. Wu comes by this collaboration honestly–he was named creative director of Integrity Toys while he was still a teenager and still oversees the company’s high-end doll lines. Read more »

Video: A sneak peek of Sonia Rykiel’s H&M clothing line

Not surprisingly, Sonia Rykiel‘s clothing line for H&M, which hits stores on February 20, has a lot of stripes. The French designer’s signature look is all over this making-of video in classic Breton black and white, wide stripes of yellow, pink and purple, and even sequinned pink and black. The majority of the collection in Rykiel’s stock-in-trade knitwear–dresses, sweaters, jumpsuits–but there are also candy-coloured bangles, diamante brooches and spangled berets and patent belts. Though we’re not sure if it’s going to be for sale, what we really want is the little Sonia doll, decked out in stripes, big red hair blazing. Tell us in the comments which pieces you love!

We are ready to love these ready-to-wear dolls

Photo via Six Six Sick
Haute fashion dolls are having a bit of a moment. Witness the Lady Gaga Barbies created by Beijing enthusiast Veik, or the designer finger puppets by Rubbish Magazine. Next up are some truly spectacular creations by New York artist Andrew Yang. Yang, who has designed for Dennis Basso and has a collection of couture dolls called The Kouklitas, created a set of big-eyed beauties dressed in Spring 2010 looks from Proenza Schouler, Lanvin, Marc Jacobs, Gareth Pugh et al. for an issue of The Block magazine. The dolls will eventually be available on The Kouklitas website with a retail price of about US$600 or Yang can make you a custom piece if youre designer love leans a different way. Baby’s first Lagerfeld: The Kaiser designs a doll
How is it possible that Karl Lagerfeld has so much free time on his hands? Aside from designing his own line and the multitude of Chanel collections, it seems like every other day the man releases some ancillary project. Does he never sleep?
Anyway, today’s announcement comes in the form of a princess doll created for Parisian toy shoppe Au Nain Bleu. Proceeds from the 220 euro doll will go to support the Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Foundation, which helps fight social inequality through culture and education. There is also a 830 euro lace, silk and tulle girl’s dress that can be worn for some super-haute version of dress-up.

Play dress up with Canadian fashion paper dolls

Danielle Meder's paper doll illustration of Pink Tartan's Spring 2010 collection.
During (and after) October’s Spring 2010 LG Fashion Week, readers of fashion illustrator Danielle Meder’s blog, Final Fashion, were treated to paper doll renderings of Pink Tartan, Philip Sparks, Vawk and 12 other Canadian collections. In each set selection of looks sat tabbed and ready to be cut out and put onto paper dolls styled in the show’s hair and makeup–and all the appropriate underpinnings. Now Meder, a Ryerson fashion grad whose illustrations have appeared in NOW Magazine, the Globe & Mail and the National Post, has compiled her series into a book (US$43, blurb.com). (If you want to cut out the clothes and play dress up, Meder will send you a PDF for $18.) We had a quick email chat with Meder to find out what inspired the paper dolls, her favourite illustrators and why she focuses on the local. (Read the interview and see a sampling of the fashion dolls, after the jump) Read more »
