That’s one bad ombré: Drew Barrymore and Audrina Patridge both showed off unfortunate dye jobs this week

Comments

Ombré, ombré, ombré! This hair-colour technique is slowly moving away from being just a fad and becoming a long-haul trend. Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean that all hair stylists have mastered how to properly do an ombré dye job. Case(s) in point: Drew Barrymore and Audrina Patridge. Both were snapped this week with dark-to-light tresses, and we can’t say we approve of either.

Patridge, at the Immortals 3D premiere in Los Angeles, doesn’t even seem to have hit the dye bottle—it looks like the former Hills star simply swapped her brown extensions for blonde. Let’s all cross our fingers and hope that this quickie approach to ombré doesn’t catch on.

Then there’s Barrymore, who is usually so good at switching hair colours. So we’re going to assume the brassy ombré style she debuted at the LACMA Art + Film Gala is actually still in transition—because there is no excuse for bleaching the bottom half of jet-black hair and not toning it to a proper shade. None.

Do you think either of these stars looks good with her new hair? »

Overheard at TIFF: The cast of Ten Year was at a dive bar the night before the premiere

Comments

Overheard: Ten Year writer/director Jamie Linden mentioning that he and his cast (including Channing Tatum and Kate Mara) had gone to a “dive bar” a.k.a. Ossington’s Sweaty Betty’s the night before the premiere. We wonder if he heard about the place from Ten Year actor Justin Long, who’s ex, Drew Barrymore, has been known to frequent the bar?

Can’t face another blah session on the elliptical? From trapeze to monkey movements, we offer six ways to spice up your routine.

1. TAKE IT TO THE ZOO
Spend an hour at Aeküus in Montreal (aekuus.com) and your body will have a light-bulb moment. You’ll find yourself bounding from one corner to the next like a monkey, with one hand on the ground and the other overhead, or crawling inches from the floor like Spider-Man scaling a building. The exercises originate from basic calisthenics and expand into endless variations, many of which are animal-inspired quadrupedal motions. You’ll start with posture, breathing and fundamental movements (walking, falling, sitting), then increase the intensity and incorporate elements such as martial arts, J-Kae band work and jump rope. “After a year and a half with us, you’re basically capable of training by yourself,” says co-founder Julien Karl. Demonstrating an advanced technique, he grabs the outer edge of a staircase, each hand on a different step, and lifts his legs parallel to the floor. Sold.

Is it just us, or has Drew Barrymore been looking really good in London this week?

Comments

The Guardian said that no one dressed well this week, but we here at FASHION will have to respectfully disagree. Drew Barrymore has been looking like a doll on her London jaunt to promote her new flick, Going The Distance, with co-star etc., Justin Long. Nothing’s over-styled–it’s all just the right side of quirky.

Comments

Ed Norton was none too pleased to see the media at the Cheval after party for his film Leaves of Grass. Norton didn’t walk the red carpet or give the cameras a shot, sneaking into the party inconspicuously. [Toronto Life] Read more »
