Afternoon beauty fix: How to create the perfect fishtail braid

Comments

What are the steps to create the perfect fishtail braid?
We love that the trendy fishtail is slightly more simple than its traditional three-tier counterpart. Instead of separating your hair into triplets, divide it into two and keep ‘messy’ on your mind—the fishtail is meant to be slightly disheveled and imperfect. Before you start, prep with a loose styling spray like Garnier Fructis Crystal Resist Finishing Spray ($6, at drug stores and mass retailers). Its super light formula will give you control without sticky-ness. Use your right hand to grab the rear piece of hair from left and wrap it around the right, then switch and do the same from the left. Repeat until you’ve reached the ends and are left with a somewhat spiky, scale-free tail.

Afternoon beauty fix: Keep that summer glow while diminishing sunspots

Comments

I love my summer glow, but how can I diminish sunspots?
The sun damage may already be done, but you can lighten the area by enlisting the help of Garnier Skin Renew Dark Spot Treatment ($20, at drugstores). It’s formulated to permeate skin and break up areas of pigmentation by increasing cell turnover and collagen production with super bouts of moisture. We implore you to amp up your SPF protection from now on, though; dark spots will be the least of your worries if you don’t step away!

A 1963 ad for Elnett Satin hairspray.

Global cosmetic titan L’Oréal is officially a centenarian. The French brand can trace its humble beginnings back to hair dye cooked up in chemist Eugène Scheuller’s Parisian apartment. While one of its first products created for the public was a tanning oil (quelle horreur), today the company holds a patent on a sunscreen stabilzer, which speaks to its long-standing relevance.–Lesa Hannah

Anna Cipollone takes a look back at the big milestones in L’Oréal’s 100 years of history. Click on the images below to read the story.
