If yesterday’s Vawk show was any indication, designer Sunny Fong’s muse for fall was a Grecian goddess-meets-art-deco Amelia Earhart. Models stormed down in the runway in aviation caps (sans goggles, sadly) and in regal purple and bronze.

The collection touched on some of the biggest trends for fall. The waist was the zone of focus; fur adorned peplums and leather bands created super-flattering nipped-in silhouettes. And then there was the art-deco detailing seen on the spring runways of the likes of Gucci and Alberta Ferretti. Geometric lines decorated skirts and dresses to much success.

Post-finale, the audience was shown a film of Fong describing the Vawkkin (Vawk’s accessible sister line) modus operandi. Kudos to the designer for making a fashion week film with some substance.

Then came Vawkkin, modeled by “real women” (because real women can only ‘Vawkkin’ budget clothing lines?). The more affordable collection of maybe too much black and grey (and a somewhat budget looking turquoise fabric) touched on some real trends (read: peplums) and seemed to be met with approval from the crowd.

Brows and bangs: 2 Fall beauty trends from Milan to try today (and we tell you how!)

Comments

Gucci and Marni, photography by Peter Stigter

As Milan Fashion Week comes to a close, the beauty buzz has zeroed in on two distinct trends: brows and bangs. While it started catching editors’ eyes earlier in the season, the repeat appearance of barely-there brows at Gucci, Versace, and Prada and heavy fringe on Milan models and Hollywood stars alike have ensured both a top spot in the growing roster of Fall trends. And best of all, brows and bangs are easy to achieve on your own: a few extra minutes during your next salon visit is all it takes!

How to get them? Who else inspired them? Read on! »

And the game of musical chairs continues! Stefano Pilati will leave Yves Saint Laurent following the Fall 2012 show in Paris

Comments

Photography by Peter Stigter

Just three days after the Raf for Jil swap, Yves Saint Laurent has announced that creative director Stefano Pilati will leave the company’s helm following the collection’s Fall show later this week in Paris.

Pilati’s ride at YSL has been a bit of a bumpy one with critically inconsistent collections. But despite a lack of support from YSL heavyweights (Yves Saint-Laurent himself once told WWD, “Some of what he does is good. Some of it is not so good.”), Pilati has rocketed the house towards considerable commercial success (though not quite at Gucci-era Tom Ford levels) with his conception of hit accessories like the Muse bag and Tribute shoe. More than a feat in these financial times, right?

Who wore it best? View our top 12 picks from the Oscars red carpet and vote for your favourite

Comments

Some of the top Fall runway trends made their way deep into red carpet territory tonight, as the A-listers put on Hollywood’s biggest and best parade. From the rich reds on Emma Stone and Natalie Portman seen this season on the runway at Michael Kors, to the crisp whites on Gwyneth Paltrow, Rooney Mara, and Octavia Spencer seen at Raf Simons‘ last Jil Sander collection (not to mention everywhere at the Golden Globes), to the peplums spotted on Michelle Williams, Tina Fey, and just about every runway from New York to Milan, it seems that everyone is drinking the same Kool-Aid. But who did it best? We’re loving Gwyneth, Michelle, Jessica, Rooney, and Angelina (her right leg gets a special shout-out), but who makes your cut? Check out our top 12 picks and vote for your favourite after the jump!

What’s in your bag, Tanya Kim?

Comments

Photography by Erin Seaman

The countdown to the Oscars continues with an extra special look into the bag belonging to one of the red carpet’s leading reporting ladies, eTalk’s Tanya Kim. With one of the most familiar (and cute!) faces in the biz, Kim’s been on the front lines of everything celebrity, alongside cohost Ben Mulroney. This Sunday she’ll be front and centre as the cameras hit the red carpet at the 84th Academy Awards. Have a look at all that she carries with her to get the job done.

MFW Diary: From MaxMara’s sailor stripes to ADR’s smoking hot Prada flame shoes, the news (and a little gossip) from Milan

Comments

Max Mara (left) and Prada (right) shot by Peter Stigter

Best in show: Prada. The moment the first look (head-to-toe noir with glittering embellishment) hit the graphic purple plush carpet/runway I was in love. It felt classic—very old school Prada (mixed-up prints, clean lines, slick structured bags).

The new suit for fall: Prada’s tailored jacket and cropped trousers. Regardless if you prefer the jumble of mix-and-match prints or the screaming solid orange version, at some point you’ll want them all.

Hottest shoes off the runway: Anna Dello Russo’s Prada Spring 2012 flame shoes.

MFW Diary: Our top 5 from day one in Milan, including Gucci, Alberta Feretti, and more

Comments

Gucci (left) and Alberta Feretti (right) Fall 2012 shot by Peter Stigter

With Milan Fashion Week just kicking off, here are my top five obsessions of day one:

1. Gucci‘s opulent romanticism: Judging from the miles of velvet and silk, iridescent feathered frocks, croc saddlebags, leather capes, uniform-inspired dress coats, and innovative fabric mixes (mink inlaid on chiffon, anyone?), Gucci’s Fall 2012 collection begs for a crisp night and a brilliant moon.

2. Brian Atwood: We love the man and the shoes. I popped into Atwood’s showroom to preview his new Fall 2012 collection, which includes his first full line of handbags. Editors and buyers were asked not to tweet, so you’ll have to use your imagination: over-the-knee lace-up leopard-print boots, giraffe and Dalmatian patterns, blue fringed cross-body bags, multi-coloured python clutches with metal rivets, and plush minaudieres. One word: WANT.
